Good work. Low carb works for getting off excess weight, and yes you can keep blood sugar down with it.

But beware of insulin resistance, or you may end up in the situation I'm in. Lean, fit, low end diabetes with high ldl, most likely due a diet very high in saturated fat. That's how I've eaten for about 20 years. Not strict low carb, but don't eat pasta, bread, cereals, etc. Occasionally have a burger with a bun, drink some beer, but most of my calories come from protein and fat. Beef, eggs, full fat dairy, etc. 6.5 A1c in July, 172 LDL. Ratios ok, excellent blood pressure, around 17% body fat, exercise regularly. 130 fasting glucose. Dr wants me on meds for cholesterol, trying to work on both issues on my own for a few months.

Have now cut out a lot of the saturated fat a

May I ask, are you on Insulin? Like a long acting one? Just curious, cause you mentioned insulin resistance

No not on insulin. Insulin resistance is an occurrence which is one of the primary causes of type 2 diabetes. As insulin resistance increases, you eventually become prediabetic, and then diabetic. Type 1 diabetics are born or develop autoimmune disease that cause their Pancreas to not produce insulin. They also can become insulin resistant to their insulin injections/pump over time, requiring more and more insulin to achieve the same result. (Not a scientist so anything I'm saying which is out of line, others should correct... and apologies in advance).

There is strong research indicating that a diet high in saturated fat causes insulin resistance. I am a case study in it. Most people think diabetes is a disease of the obese and/or of those who eat too much sugar. There is also a gene

Hey, you got me on the bowl movements, but I knew what you meant 😂.

I love reading stories like yours. Thanks for sharing. I’m hoping to share great improvements after my next round of testing. My cholesterol is high, I’m overweight about 30 pounds, high a1c (over 11), and very insulin resistant. But I’ve been working hard and consistently with diet and exercise. So I expect improvements in my numbers.

Anyway, keep up the good work! And keep sharing your wins!

got my A1c down from 8.2 to 5.7 and most recently 6.0 after a few months of not watching what I eat as well. (1000mg metformin a day) cholesterol went up to 240, so now I'm taking omega-3 capsules and trying to lay off the bacon and cheese. I have 20 more pounds to lose but lost 50-60 over past few years. if it's not one thing, it's another. still have to enjoy life.
