First, you are doing the right thing starting with a doctor appointment! I had to wait two weeks too. I was diagnosed as Type 2 in February 2025 with my a1c just over 12 with no idea. I hadn't been feeling the best, but as I had never had a blood test outside of normal it was a shock. First thing I bought was a meter and test strips to keep a record before my doctor's appointment. Testing first thing in morning, before meals, two hours after meals, and before bed and entering the numbers into a log I printed for free off the internet. I cut carbs and sugar and increased protein. One thing I didn't know was how much sugar is in some fruit and veggies so I cut out the bad for me ones. Increased water and walking. My go to then was lean protein, low carb veggies, and Greek yogurt. I met with

Thank you! I’ll see to pick up a glucometer as well before my doctors so I have a record of my glucose readings too. I know my endo mentioned looking to take an GLP1 even before my blood tests were seen because she wanted to address my Weight but I also have history of digestive issues so I wasnt too keen on it.

I have Gastroparesis so that is a no for GLP1 and many of the new medicines. Good luck!

Follow up with your doc, there plenty of hope for you! The news is definitely scary, but it is something you can fix. I dropped my a1c from 11.4 to 6.1 in only three months. Listen to your care team, and if they aren't aggressive about treatment, find someone who is.

You got this!

Thanks, I think the biggest issue here where I’m from is most doctors just think to give pill and thats it. Or even speaking to a dietician or nutritionist here they still use the old ways to deal with it like Nash diet which is still high in carbs.

It's possible to treat type 2 diabetes through diet alone, but it is really hard to stay the course long term. And the "trick" is low carb, regardless of whether its keto, whole 30, Mediterranean diet, or whatever. Glp1 meds like mounjaro are easily the most effective, and are usually easy to deal with insurance if prescribed for diabetes rather than weight loss (at least in the US). Monitoring your blood sugar will also be an important part of treatment and while it's not fun, it gets easier. This is a great subreddit for venting and getting answers when you have questions. I'm newish around here and it has been very helpful.

Thank you! First thing I did after binging a few videos from BenBrinkman and Jason Fung was clean out my pantry so I'm not tempted went to the shop and changed up my stuff at home so I wouldn't be tempted. :) So far I've kept to it and have been learning how to cope with the side effects of adapting and I've got my appointment all set up on wednesday.
