Sugar Free Ice Cream

shared by: insomebodyelseslake · · 💙 11 · 💬 37 · Join the discussion

Does anyone have a recommendation for sugar free ice cream that doesn’t have stevia or any type of sugar alcohol? Both of those sweeteners make me so sick to my stomach, but I’m dying for some ice cream. Google was no help other than suggesting I buy a ninja creami and make my own.

Buy a creami and make your own. Thats what i did. Tired if all the nasty low carb ice creams out there.

You can put whatever sweetener you like, i use allulose/monk fruit blend.

Ooohh you got a recipe posted somewhere?

My recipe is essentially the ones that come in the creami manual just replace the sugar with half allulose blend/ half erythrytol blend. I have done jt with just allulose/monk fruit blend though. There is still some carbs from the milk.

1 tablespoon cream cheese
1/3rd cup sweetener
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
3/4 heavy cream
1 cup of milk

I have never seen a sugar free ice cream that doesn't use either sugar alcohol or stevia. :(

What’s wrong with stevia ?

Tiffanyann06 · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

Nothing's wrong with Stevia. OP said it makes them sick to their stomach, so they try to avoid it.

Get a flavor you like and have a spoonful for a couple of months. Works for me since even before my diagnosis I ate ice cream extremely slowly. Currently O have an eggnog ice cream. I’ll be enjoying it well into March.

This. I buy Talenti and just eat a spoonful or two every so often. I just have a taste for ice cream and that satisfies it. It takes like month to finish it. 😂

My supermarket has is own brand of sugar free ice cream that uses allulose as a sweetener. The ice cream is made from coconut milk. It's amazing. And it doesn't even register on my CGM. (Supermarket is HEB in Texas, brand is Higher Harvest).

Too bad I Just returned from Houston a few hours ago to read your post. Went to a HEB yesterday to get their habanero salsa but they were out of stock. Love HEB. Their store label products are high quality. So this ice cream is not a HEB private label then?

rjainsa · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

Yeah, I was told Higher Harvest is their brand.

MiddleFeeling5933 · · 💙 1 Reply to comment

It is! It is just labeled their premium brand.

I just buy a regular ice cream and have a smaller portion. Sugar free, fat free, etc… all taste nasty to me. I’d rather have a small or 1/2 portion of regular than a normal portion of diet. If my sugars are out of whack I’m skipping ice cream anyway.

Try freezing a banana and throwing it in a blender along with any flavorings you want, puree and add any mix ins desired.

Freeze for 30 minutes to overnight, stir and enjoy.

Bananas always give me a very sharp spike. So you can tolerate it then?

Yeah, that's one of those, "it hits some people, and doesn't affect others."

Type 2. My GP and dietitian said that I am able to have regular ice cream, as it is fat with the sugar. Obviously not carte blanche, but that balancing control has to be exercised elsewhere. Everybody is different.

Always read the ingredients list first though, if the sugar comes before the dairy content then there is more sugar than cream in there and I find i still spike. If the dairy is first on the list, then it isn't as bad.

I either enjoy a small amount of breyers or turkey hill ice cream. Or munch on frozen cool whip with added fruit of choice.

UnfortunateSyzygy · · 💙 6 Reply to comment

Breyers makes a low carb vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate onna stick that has always treated my sugars well. Carb Smart, I think?

jessdb19 · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

Yasso yogurt bars, kroger has some sugar free fat free ice cream fudge bars that are legit good, and breyers carb smart are decent

No sugar added ice cream from Safeway. Butter pecan or vanilla. They don't raise my bg and taste pretty good.

I just picked up a Dash mini ice cream maker - it makes one cup at a time. The couple recipes I’ve tried have had just a couple tablespoons of sugar, which I plan to try subbing in monk fruit sweetener. But the couple cups I’ve made have not raised my sugar much at all. Plus since it’s a maker, and makes only a cup at a time, it’s a good way to portion control (instead of having a pint in the freezer)

Healthy choice fudgecicles fit the bill

Honestly something’s I don’t look for substitute. I have found for me that ingredients matter. So Häagen-Dazs ice cream is what my glucometer likes. I have a small serving after a meal where I didn’t eat any grains.

I eat Rebel, it has like 17-18 carbs but for some reason they don’t affect me at all! Obviously everyone is different, so you’ll have to try it for yourself, but they have a couple different flavors. I’ve only tried peanut butter caramel (I think that’s what it was lol) and cookie dough. Hope this helps!

I'm type 2, and when I want ice cream, I'll have one of my favorite full fat regular ice creams. I'll eat either 1/2 of a pint, or one of the minis (1/2) pints if they are on sale. For me it's an every once and a while treat, that sadly I can only eat at home, being lactose intolerant, and while tasty, the after effects are, well, not fun.

Lol, pretty much! But I learned over the years, that a treat every few months won't kill me, and I have to pick what I like with the full knowledge that things will get messy,if I over do it, so a couple of times a year makes it worth it.

Hot_Valuable1027 · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

Ngl I just get regular ice cream, eat 4 spoonfuls and then call it a night lol

Steve_Kraus · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

I love ice cream. I'm an old type 1 who has to watch saturated fat and sodium as well as not eat to many carbs. Ice cream has a lot of saturated fat. And sherbet doesn't have the mouth feel that ice cream has. So I shouldn't eat a lot of ice cream and should not eat it often. So ice cream is a rare small treat barely worth eating, usually a half cup every couple months.

The flavor chemist that invents an ice cream substitute with the taste and mouth feel of the real dessert will become a multimillionaire, and I will help shower him with money.
