How do I navigate life from here as a 24 yo?

shared by: bubblegumfettuchini · · 💙 1 · 💬 4 · Join the discussion

I got diagnosed last year in April, it was very difficult to accept, I didn't know any other 23 yo who was diabetic and honestly, a lot was going on. I had recently shifted to a whole new city for my job and I was not ready for that life at all. I missed my mom, had no friends, barely ate or binged

You live like a regular person, just one who has a good diet. There are a lot of people without diabetes who have good diets and exercise, so you do that and live like a normal person.

The steps you need to take:

  1. see a therapist and learn coping skills that aren't eating. And also, help you get over the fact that you'll be "living like a patient" for the rest of your life. You need to reset that attitude to "I'm going to take care of myself and be healthy for the rest of my life."

  2. See and endocrinologist and while you're there get a referral to a registered dietician who can help you build a solid eating plan that suits you.

  3. Get a blood glucose monitor and a log and keep it faithfully for a while to see what spikes you and what doesn't.

  4. Yes, you can eat a slice of pizz

Thank you sm you have no idea how helpful this is for me, I'm generally very mismanaged and all over the place so the reassurance means a lot. I dance but it hurts my knees and ankles, I'll begin again after my vit D levels elevate a bit :")

I know you can do this. You did it once, you can do it again. Good luck to you.

Theres a good thread on here that explains a few basic concepts and i can confirm along with many that there is a lot of great truths there. Trying to find it.
