Active insulin has two chains A and B Pancreatic insulin has C peptide which links both A and B chains. So even if you take injectable insulin you can still test for C peptide levels and if it’s low it means your pancreas is not producing enough insulin and you require injectable insulin and oral diabetic medications won’t work
