Novolog Frustrations

shared by: oshea1544 · · 💙 5 · 💬 11 · Join the discussion

I’m a type one diabetic who has been handling the condition for almost 12 years now. For the first 11 or so years I was on humalog, however my insurance decided to no longer cover humalog as the default, so I had to switch to novolog. Since switching I have noticed that I need 3-4 times more insulin

I've been changed to various XXXXXlog insulins with very minor if any side effects. Maybe I'm just lucky but they all seem to work fine for me.

Are you also using a basal insulin? If you are not taking a basal insulin you may want to speak to your doctor about adding one.

I’m on a pump, so the novolog acts as my basal as well.

If humolog was working for you definitely use the lilly savings card to but it for $35.

I'm on the other side of this issue, I've tried Humalog once for a bit and it just didn't do it for me. Bodies will body!

Would your insurance cover the generic version of Humalog if not the brand name? (Insulin Lispro) While a generic isn't 100% identical either, it might work better for you than Novolog if it's an option.

They’re able to cover it if my endocrinologist specifically notes that I need to be on it with a documented reason. I’ll be seeing her later today in hopes of doing that. She wasn’t able to keep me on humalog originally because the insurance didn’t see any “adverse health effects” since I had never been on the medication before. Hoping the unfortunate jump in A1C is enough proof for them

I’m on novolog and I use a LOT of insulin. I follow my low carb diet and exercise and drink lots of water and do all the things. But my insulin does not seem to lower my blood sugar well. Its to the point where I use to think that I had bad batches of insulin. But I’ve come to realize that thats how novolog must work. I’ve never tried another kind. I’m curious if other novolog users have the same problem.

I had to increase my basal when switching to Novolog. Once I had that dialed in the basal dosage got more sane. Approximately 50/50 split for basal-bolus now.

My endo had me double my novolog basal rate so hopefully that will help curb some stuff.
