There was a point where he had a stomach ache and he would drink this sugar crystal and tea that was supposed soothe his tummy. Anyway he would drink at least a couple everyday foe like a month or so.

There is such a thing as Controlled Type 2 diabetes; not all who are T2 need to be on medication or insulin, some can manage for years or even decades on the proper diet. It still doesn't stop them from being diabetic, it just means that they can control it through diet is all.

For many, it isn't possible to control it through diet alone, but for many who can in time, that isn't possible, but for some, it is something that they can continue doing, sometimes without complications happening, but not always.

Once a T2, always a T2. There is no cure or fix (despite all the snake oil salesman on YouTube). But there is control. And that's what we aim for. If his A1C can be kept in the range his doctor specifies without meds, that's great. But as he ages and gets to needing the meds, try to help him be comfortable with taking them. Right now, if it's ok with his doctor, it would be good to get a CGM (buy one if necessary) and get a picture of his sugar over the course of a day and what foods have what effect on his blood sugar. If your insurance doesn't cover the CGM, just use maybe 2 of them. 3 weeks or a month should be good enough to get an idea, then switch back to strips from there if CGM's are unaffordable.

Just have him keep testing his blood sugar regularly, and get his a1c tested on schedule. If it really was just a temporary aberration, it's not the worst idea to keep track of where his numbers are going forward, and test strips are pretty cheap if you're using 1 a day or less. (Hell, testing your glucose regularly can even tell you when you're coming down with something, so that's a side perk.)

The technical term would be, "in remission," if he's staying in range without meds.

Yeah, I am like this I haven't had to take any medications yet and I've been anywhere from 5.0 to 5.4 over the last 4 years and I was diagnosed just over 4 years ago at 9.4. just changed my diet changed my exercise routine and monitor myself the best I can.
