Don't confuse the effect of exercise with effect of a busy liver.

You have two sources of glucose - diet and gluconeogenesis (in the liver). Your liver gets busy metabolizing alcohol and it's too busy to keep up its usual supply of glucose.

Sweet mixed drinks have to be pretty carefully balanced.

Yeah I was a little glib but I get that. Do you put beer in the same "sweet drink" category?

The carbs in Guinness kept Ireland alive during the potato famine.

So far beer hasn’t spiked me but to be on the safe side (or at least the story I give the better half) I stick to bourbon, rum, or scotch neat or on the rocks.
