I searched the thread and couldn't find this exact topic, but I apologize if it's already been asked and answered. The charts I see for injection sites always show the same limited locations, but I also see that the idea is to inject into subcutaneous fat. Well, I'm pretty fat. So why couldn't I inj

Pretty much, yeah

There are places on your body where certain blood vessels, arteries are the huge concerns that even short needles are possible to penetrate. I’ve seen the results of that happening. Find out where your pulse points are and stay away from them.

DO NOT inject in armpits, groin, crease of elbow, neck, face/head, breasts, back of knee, pretty much just don't go below knee.

Safest spots are thighs, back of arms, and the belly (which is why they say to inject in these areas)

I occasionally manage to hit some sort of vein in my belly. Very annoying.

Anywhere you have some padding is fine. Basically just avoiding going intramuscular is the main point there. Time-released long acting types do better with some fat. I'm lean enough that I end up jabbing wherever there's the soft tissue, and it's all good.

Apparently absorption may be slower from some areas (thighs, hips), so it may be good to keep those spots for basal.

Stomach, behind the upper arms and squishier areas of the thighs.

There's charts online if you Google it, also don't want too close to your bell button because reasons I don't remember

Because it is a nerve bundle and therefore hurts like hell.

My doctor mentioned that the belly button was considered a “scar” and wouldn’t absorb well.

Yeah, anywhere with any kind of fat is fine. Upper arm obviously but also the stomach, thigh, etc. my stomach is actually my preferred location - I’m not fat, but pretty much anyone not super lean/muscular has a decent enough fat layer to make for a pretty painless shot

Don’t forget the butt meat. So much space for activities.

A like just for the phrase “butt meat”.

Anywhere you can pinch an inch! I would also say you should try to go for areas of the body you can easily view, it’s good to keep an eye on injection sites to make sure nothing funny is going on. Do a quick skin check in the mirror if you inject anywhere not easily visible, like the back of the arms or hips. I tell people to skin check when they check their feet every day.

I was going to say this - - anywhere you can pinch an inch.

I always inject in a fat roll above my waist

Hey, thank you all so much for the speedy replies! I inject 5x a day (short and long-acting) so it's great to have more sites for the rotation.

You said for rotation, but for any newbies that wonder if it really helps to choose different spots: yes, it really does.

After 40 years and over 50,000 injections…I can tell you that you don’t want any type of scarring.

stomach seems to be the least painful. but buttocks, outer part of upper legs, the back of upper arms are all good places

google image search "insulin injection site chart" and you'll see a thousand diagrams showing exactly what you're saying

Prof1959 · · 💙 1 Reply to comment

Yes. But not in your neck. Anything else is fine.

probably got some of that fat around genitals, but not attempting that party trick :)

upper legs, lower torso, bum, maybe the arms...
