How many have LADA antibodies, but are still in the honeymoon stage? How many have the antibodies and are beyond the honeymoon stage and long did it take for that to happen?

I tested positive for IA-2 only. Some labs say the threshold is >5.4U/mL and some say it's >7.5U/mL, and my titer was 11.6, so I consider that a fairly weak positive. Based on that and that alone I was deemed to have LADA.

I'm negative for GAD-65, ZnT8, IAA, and ICA. Negative for other autoimmune disorders like thyroid and celiac, no family history. My C-peptide started out high and then dropped to normal as I lost weight and reduced carbs (LADA usually have low C-peptide). BMI at diagnosis was >30 (LADA are usually lower BMI.)

I'm almost 1.5 years post-diagnosis as T2, almost 1 year since the antibody panel, and IF I truly have LADA, I'm still solidly honeymooning. I say "if" because I'm not entirely convinced I have LADA. Data are hard to find (I've poked through several studies), but

My GAD is 37.6. My A1C is normal still, but i have low insulin. My endo says that as long as my A1C stays in normal range, there's nothing to do. If my numbers turn prediabetic, then there would be potential of starting low dose insulin. But, it's just a waiting game. I am 43f, 5'4, 123lbs also have hoshimotos and perimenopausal. i struggle with fatigue and very slow recovery.

My GAD was 250+, and I’ve been in honeymoon for nearly two years now. Before that I was prediabetic for 8 years, so it seems like this is just incredibly slow moving for me compared to what seems normal for others.

What is your insulin and a1c at currently?

No insulin, I’m still honeymooning on metformin and jardiance. Last A1c was 6.4

I was diagnosed in late June 2024 with positive GAD-65 and I'm still honeymooning. Just recently my endo suggested I could start insulin so I wouldn't have as many dietary compromises (I miss pizza and cereal like you wouldn't believe) but I'd rather just ride my beta cells into the ground. I believe last time I checked my A1C was 6.8

Try Magic Spoon cereal. It’s actually pretty decent.

I have all the autoantibodies as of April and getting to the point where I’ll probably have to start insulin soon. Still definitely honeymooning a lot. C peptide low norm

What is your a1c? My endocrinologist wont test my c peptide, even though i asked for it.

LogicalEstimate2135 · · 💙 1 Reply to comment

It was 7.2, got it down to 4.8 but now it’s going up

1 year in. Honeymooning but have taken basal insulin the full year and rapid-acting with meals for 10 months. C-peptide has stayed stable.

I tested high for GAD-65 and ZnT8 antibodies about a year and a half ago and I’m still managing my blood sugar with diet and exercise with a 4.7 A1C. I did do Tzield last November which may have bought me time!

Icy_Advertising_597 · · 💙 1 Reply to comment

Was your a1c 4.7 before Tzield? Im worried that if i asked about this my dr would say my a1c isn't high nough at 5.1% to give treatment.

Expensive-Might-8868 · · 💙 1 Reply to comment

No, it was 5.3. I got approved because of an oral glucose test where my blood sugar got up to 250+! They usually just need a way to show that you have abnormal glucose levels.

I think i should ask my dr for an oral glucose test then. For some reason, she didn't mention doing it, probably because she sees a normal a1c and doesn't see reason to do more....i have notoriously bad experiences with endocrinologists.
