Female, age 51.

I was just diagnosed in November with an A1C of 14.1. I am currently taking 1000mg of Metformin 2x a day and giving myself an injection once at night of Lantus 18 units.

I want to start a GLP-1 when I go back to the doctor in February. Of course I don’t know what my A1C will be a

I’ve been on Mounjaro for about two months now. I still take Metformin in the morning, but I am no longer using any insulin and I was also on Januvia, which I stopped once I began the Mounjaro.

Depends on how you eat. I still eat like always and use insulin plus Mounjaro. All the Mounjaro does is makes me more sensitive to the insulin so I can use smaller doses.

Have you had any hypoglycemic events?

Maybe 2 or 3 times this past month. Depends on what or how I eat the day before. The hypo usually happens overnight or early morning.

Once I started a GLP-1 and a CGM, I no longer needed long-acting insulin or metformin. I occasionally use short-acting when I want a sweet treat. My A1C is in the low-5s.

Edit: my reddit flair is very outdated!

Beautiful! Did you taper off the other drugs or were you able to quit them cold turkey?

I went cold turkey with the guidance of my endocrinologist.

This is good to know. This means they will probably just stop my insulin altogether rather than tapering it.

It depends on your individual needs.

I take both Mounjaro and metformin.

My husband was taken off insulin when he started Mounjaro.

I take 1000mg metformin and 2.5mg Mounjaro. They can be taken together and should not increase the risk of hypos in combination. The thing to adjust is probably the insulin.

I am on Ozempic. Like other drugs it works by delaying stomach emptying so bs does not spike as much.

Most important now is to reduce quantities. Eat smaller portions. Avoid foods that spike sugars That is where i woulsstart

Don't forget.. diet and exercise.. good possibility you can get off glp1 and just stick with metformin or get off of both.

Good luck!
