What I was afraid would happen is happening.

So, I'm supposed to have my colonoscopy in just under three hours. My blood glucose was above 140 under an hour ago. It's dropped below 80 now. No insulin taken, no meds taken, no Mounjaro in over a week, no nothing. But apple juice has only produced spikes that rapidly fall off. I've consumed

Let your doctors know. They can probably run you an IV, or just let you have a lot of sugar right before, or eat glucotabs during. I'm sure they've encountered this before.

Thanks, I did call.  They said I could have a little bit of any sugared clear liquid, provided I did so no sooner than two hours before the procedure; but I'd used up all I had in the previous 24 hours.  I asked about dissolving some sugar in a little bit of water, and they said that would be ok. But then after I got off the phone, I discovered we had no sugar!  We had a mouse get into our kitchen a couple of days before, and it had all been thrown out.  So I used a tablespoon of honey mixed into some water, just before the two hour limit.  That seems to have worked with the immediate blood sugar issue, but I hope honey was ok re: the procedure, since there are such tight rules.  In the surgery waiting room now.

I hope everything goes well for you

I get hypoglycemic frequently. I have multiple sugared pop, some kool aid sugar drinks on hand all the time.

This happened to me once as well. I let the doctors office know and they had me come in early and gave me a glucose drip through my procedure.

M doctor said anything not colored was OK. I had coconut water and the white Gatorade on hand. Also if you're on a pump, lower your basal. You can also request your doctor give you IV dextrose.

No pump -- in fact I'm not on insulin anymore.  Some sources of sugar cause my blood sugar to crash as quickly as it rose.  What was frustrating was that for the last ~34 hours, those are the only sources of carbs I've been allowed.

Next time ask for the Gatorade prep. My doc let me not skip my Monjauro. It was on a Monday and took my MJ on Thursday.

Boot and Ensure make clear protein drinks that are allowed.

What about something with staying power, protein and fat instead of plain juice? Snickers, crackers and nuts/PB/cheese, chocolate milk, yogurt with fruit, things like that? Do you have a guideline you have to stay in?

**Editing to say my bad! You can't eat before a colonoscopy or most surgery in general. Don't listen to me here obviously!

This has to be something that comes up, right? I'm sure they've seen it before.

Have you never had or heard of a colonoscopy? You can’t have food.

thegerl · · 💙 2 Reply to comment

Haha! That's my bad, I wasn't thinking.

You just wanted to go through the prep, get to doctors’ office and be sent home to prep again in the future. /s

I was told nothing red or orange. Looks too much like blood when it’s in your gullywhatsits which is part of what they’re looking for when they’re in there.

Apple juice, and the gatorades that are not red or orange are fine. At least according to my doctor’s office.

And no purple gatorade either. If they have red dye in them for coloring, it's a no no.
