M29, i reguarly (annually) get a complete blood panel in may. Last time my glycated haemo was 95 mg/dl. Got a basic diabetes check early since I was feeling super thirsty all month, and my basf was 328 mg/dl and h1ac wass 11.8.

Not sure I have processed it all yet but I got my insulin, metformin

Well, you have us to talk to now. Whether T1D, T2D or one of the other types of diabetes, we have all been there at some point.

11.8% A1c is quite high, so I would want to be sure that whatever test you are hearing about tomorrow is an autoantibody test to check for the autoimmune antibodies that are the indicator of T1D and LADA.

Unfortunately, there's no "better" diabetes, not really a way to luck out on this one. No matter what, it's a lot to learn, but once you have it figured out it's not going to ruin your life or anything.

Most importantly (imho), give yourself months and months to get your BG down while you learn the ropes. Fasting BG of 328 is too high, but daytime BGs that are sometimes in the 200s are fine for now while you are learning. That's the best way to ensure that you

Yes I have a bunch of arcane sounding tests scheduled and the doc says its for diffrentiation of the type, including for adult onset.

Ty for your comment.

This is a very supportive and useful sub, with very little tolerance for bad behavior. I think you'll be able to learn a lot here once you have a better idea of what you're working with. The good news is that in most cases, the disease is pretty straightforward to manage, if not a little tedious at times. Keep checking in as you find out more about what's going on with you.

Welcome aboard!

All my life it was "when diabetes hits" from my PCPs, since it is on both sides of my family. I jumped on the diabetes train later in life, and I still had that feeling of failure for a year or two after the diagnosis. And my A1c was 13.5 at the time.

Once you get your BG stable, you will feel so much better. Not just physically, but mentally/emotionally. No one talks about the emotional side, but getting the diagnosis is like getting hit with a frying pan in the face while extreme skiing down a steep slope.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this it’s a lot to take in, and it’s overwhelmed. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at 24, and it’s a lot. In some ways, though, it can be relieving. Now you know what’s going on and you can do something about it! As your blood sugar levels stabilize, you’ll start to feel so much better. The thirst, irritability, and exhaustion will improve. One step at a time. You’ve got this. (If you can get a cgm! I have a Dexcom 🥰 so much more easy to keep track of BG. And if you would keep up us to date on going that would be great!)

You're going to get a ton of info thrown at you in the next few weeks. I'll give you a longer term bit of info. There are lots of us that have been T1 since well before you were born that are still perfectly healthy. Just remember, long term you can live with this and be healthy.
