I've recently started on an insulin pen and I'm looking for a smaller sharps container.

All kinds of jars work for me. And an empty laundry detergent holds a year's worth for me. If your state requires specific containers and recycling of sharps, never mind.

Here in PA, any hard container is OK, if marked as "SHARPS" and "DO NOT RECYCLE". They go right in the trash.

Good to know. I live in PA, but have never looked into it.

For even smaller, an empty pill bottle suffices.

I use these to hold my day-to-day sharps when I am out and about, which I then dump into a larger receptacle I have at home.

They have a tab you can push in to permanently lock the tube for disposal as well, but I prefer to reuse them as much as possible, because they only fit about 10 of my 4mm needles with their caps (I can fit about double that if I clip the ends and discard of the caps separately).

Empty Gatorade bottle.

I use the same thing. I use a 12 ounce Gatorade bottle, so it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Easy to replace, when I need a new container.

I've been using empty vitamin bottles. The ones with a wide mouth.

One note:

Novo-Nordisk runs a program that sends you a free sharps container, and a way to safely dispose of it when it's full. You can get it here: https://www.novocare.com/diabetes/resources/safe-disposal.html

(it's fairly large)

For small containers? Talenti gelato container. It's plastic, it's clear, and it's got a screw-top lid. I use this when traveling.

Useless Panceas (.com) has small sharps containers that fit in your purse or pocket. They're made by a company called Glucology.

For regular use and to carry around, I use a snack container with a clamp-down lid. Empty that into the "proper" pharmacy container I keep in a hall closet. Any small sturdy container with a secure lid should work fine.

I use the small plastic waterbottles that hotels give out at check in. Great when on travel

These are tiny, almost travel sized containers.

Thank you. I have that and it doesn't fit the needles nor the pen.

Are you trying to put the outer needle cap in? That isn’t sharp so doesn’t go in. Only the inner needle goes in (with the inner needle cap if you like)

The smallest would be a "Needle clipper." Clip the needle (it stores the pointy bit) and toss the body. I use one for travel.

At home I use a 2 gallon sharps bin (lasts over a year for my daily 3 pen needles)
