I recently had mild DKA as my presenting event for diabetes (unclear if it is LADA or DM2 yet, getting antibodies). I am grateful I was put on insulin by my new endocrinologist for the time being as I was feeling like death until it was started, but I see I'm starting to swell up rather rapidly arou

Make sure to keep your endo and GP updated on the bloating. There could be other things they want to check.

Diabetes causes unplanned weight loss because glucose is excreted through urine if BG exceeds around 11 mmol/l or 200 mg/dl.

Taking insulin to manage blood glucose levels stops this, which tends to result in some weight gain in people who were previously eating too much.

However, it's still possible to manage weight (lose, maintain or gain) by eating an appropriate amount of calories.
